Numa das zonas costeiras do Bangladesh, ao longo do rio Brahmaputra, Afrin, uma rapariga órfã de 12 anos, vive numa ilha sem eletricidade e destruída pelas cheias. Os seus familiares querem casá-la, mas, apesar de ser uma prática comum, é ilegal. Afrin não é como as outras raparigas, tem planos e os seus próprios objetivos. Quando a sua casa fica submersa pelas cheias, decide deixar para trás o único mundo que alguma vez conheceu e parte numa viagem turbulenta à procura do seu pai, que nunca conheceu.
Assim, sem nunca perder a esperança de reencontrar o seu pai e ter uma vida melhor, numa das cidades mais povoadas do mundo, Dhaka, cheia de perigos e mistérios, Afrin enfrenta o impossível.

In one of Bangladesh’s low-lying coastal areas along the Brahmaputra River, a 12-year-old orphan girl named Afrin lives on a flood-ravaged island without electricity. Her relatives want to marry her off, which is illegal though common practice, but Afrin is not like other young girls, she has plans and a mind of her own. When her house is submerged by floods, she decides to leave behind the only world she has ever known and undertake a treacherous solo boat journey to find the father she has never met – in one of most densely populated cities in the world. In Dhaka, a city overflowing with danger and mystery, Afrin faces the impossible and never lets go of the hope of reuniting with her father and a better life for herself.

With rhythmic fluidity, Saba’s body moves to the music. Dancing is what she lives for, how she expresses herself – yet she is not free to do so in her own country. In a film dancing the line between documentary and fiction, a moving portrait emerges of a generation of young Iranians hemmed in by the Islamic republic’s rigid rules. When Saba rebels in a poetic act of defiance, the boundaries between fiction and reality finally dissolve.
